CEMETERY

XVII-XIX centuries

State index: 1.12.5.38

The cemetery surrounding St. Astvatsatsin Church (Holy Mother of God) extends to the east but has been partially separated from the church due to residential development. The cemetery features rectangular and cradle-shaped tombstones made from gray and brown tuff. Some of these tombstones are inscribed, bent, or displaced. Both the western and eastern facades of the tombstones are adorned with simple crosses and floral sculptures.

Approximately 50 meters east of the church, on the inner side of the western wall of Tukh-Manuk’s Chapel, which is attached to a residential building at 22A Tsarav Aghbyur Street, are two 17th-century sculptural khachkars. The left khachkar is large and inscribed, commemorating Satpash and Bekisultan. The stones show signs of weathering and have been blackened by candle soot. The cemetery covers an area of about 50 x 50 meters.
