station in Yerevan, at 13 Sevan Street.
The “David of Sasun” station is located in the Erebuni
district of Yerevan.
The station is named after David of Sasun, one of the
heroes of the Armenian epos “Daredevils of Sasun”. Opened on March 7, 1981. It
has an exit to David of Sasun Square and the railway station. The platform is
open-air.
The station architects are Baghdasar Arzumanyan,
Sergey Nersisyan, and Rafael Israelyan, with Gerasim Gevorgyan as the
constructor. The author of the reliefs is sculptor Artashes Hovsepyan.
The reliefs are located in the underground lobby of
the station, on the way from the platform to the escalator. They are based on themes
from the national epos: “Great Mher with a Lion”, “Little David and Kurkik
Jalali,” “David the Shepherd”, “Little Mher”. There are also scenes of ram
battles, eagle sculptures, and others.
The reliefs are made on tuff stone. They attract attention with their unified compositional, decorative-rhythmic simple arrangement and monumental-stylized forms.
