HOSPITAL BUILDINGS COMPLEX: CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

1932-1975

State index: 1.6.94.5
Architects: Alexander Tamanyan, Mark Grigoryan

The complex is located between Abovyan and Heratsi Streets. The building was designed in 1932 and constructed in stages. The first phase was completed in 1939, while full construction was finished in 1975. In 1987, the building was extended from the Abovyan Street side further into the depth of the site.

It is designed for 150 beds. Due to the slope of the terrain, the building is two stories high on the Heratsi Street side and three stories high on the opposite side. The central volume (33 m long and 16 m wide), which houses the administrative offices, is connected by an arched composition to the side wings (clinical departments). The wing facing Heratsi Street is designated for the pediatric polyclinic.

The building is constructed of stone. The building materials used include rough-hewn basalt, Artik tuff, and reinforced concrete.

The arched massing of the structure, aligned with the outline of Abovyan Park, plays an important role in organizing the visual termination of Abovyan Street.

The building is designed in a classical architectural style.
