State index: 1.12.12
Architect: Eduard Safaryan
Sculptor: Serzh Mehrabyan
The monument to Davit Anhaght (The Invincible), a 5th-6th century Armenian philosopher and a key figure in the development of secular ancient Armenian philosophy and Neoplatonism, is located in the park named after him. The statue faces D. Anhaght Street and is set on a pedestal.
The
great thinker is depicted seated, dressed in long garments, with his right hand
holding his beard. Beneath his elbow rests a thick book inscribed with the
phrase “YOU’RE YOUR SOUL’S PURE TREASURES...,” referencing Anhaght’s work The
Limits of Wisdom. His left hand rests on his knee, and he gazes
thoughtfully toward Mount Masis.
The
pedestal is made of reddish granite and measures 1.75 x 2 x 0.85 meters. The
bronze statue stands approximately 3 meters tall. This monument serves as a
tribute from the Armenian people to one of their most distinguished figures
from the early Middle Ages.
