ABBAS MIRZA MOSQUE (SARDAR’S MOSQUE)
Beginning of the XIX century
State index: 1.6.149
The ruins of the building were discovered in the former fortress of Yerevan, near Argishti Street in a densely developed residential area. Constructed during the reign of Husein Ghuli Khan, the last Persian Sardar of Yerevan, the building was named after Abbas Mirza. Its facades and dome were adorned with blue and green glazed tiles. After Russian troops captured the fortress in October 1827, the building was converted into an arsenal.
According
to the Yerevan urban plan (1906-1911) by town technician Boris Mehrabyan, the
building was labeled as the “Castle Mosque,” located on the eastern side of the
Sardar Palace. It remains an important example of Persian religious
architecture.
