RESIDENTIAL HOUSE
1927
State Index։ 1․6․52
Architect։ Nikoghayos Buniatyan
The house is located at 96th Nalbandyan street. It is one of the first residential architecture buildings of the Soviet-Armenian period, built by the projection of the first chief architect of Yerevan (1924-1938) Nikoghayos Buniatyan. In 1927-1936 famous Armenian writer, philologist, translator Axel Bakunts (Alexander Stepan Tadevosyan, 1899-1937) lived in this house. The house was initially a one-story house consisting of four apartments. Apartments designed with two rooms were located near the central entrance, while apartments with three rooms were oriented on the edge. The main façade of the house was covered by cement, where the cornice, the rhythmically repeated vertical quads placed in the corners stood out with the black tuff architectural elements. The roof was double bended and covered by tiles.
The
ground floor is now provided to the shops.
In
1939, preserving the composition of the main façade, the second floor of the building and later the third floor were constructed.
Many changes have been made from the yard side.
In
1970, a sculpture dedicated to Aksel Bakunts was installed near the building
(made by orange tuff, dimensions: 0.40 x 0.40 x 2.55 m, architect: Oleg
Shokarev, sculptor: Ed. M. Aghayan, state index: 1.6.52.1). On the lower part
of the monument is engraved. “In this Yerevanian house palpitated Aksel Bakunts’s
heart: listen the apricot trumpet blowing, the alpine violet smelling, and old
Murro telling stories. Listen, passenger!"
A memorial table dedicated to Bakunts is also placed on the wall of the building.
