SQUARES AND PARKS
MOSCOW PARK
2010s
Designers located the Moscow Park in the Kentron administrative district, between Avetik Isahakyan, Gevorg Kochar, and Koryun Streets. It starts from Koryun Street, extends downward along the left side of Kochar Street and along the building of the Hrachya Gaplanian Drama Theater, and reaches the “Aragast” cafe.
During the Soviet years, the old and good tram of Yerevan
used to pass through here, along G. Kochar Street.
Builders constructed it to commemorate the
Armenian-Russian friendship.
At the beginning of the park, they installed the metal
sculpture “Secure Your Future” (sculptor: David Minasyan, 2012).
In front of the side facade of the Drama Theater, they
placed the bronze sculpture “The Backgammon Player” (sculptor: Edward Shakhikyan, 2007), the idea for which
one of the students of the producer course at the Yerevan State Institute of
Theater and Cinema proposed.
Due to the slope of the site, designers developed the
park with terraced platforms and wide basalt stairs. They landscaped the area.
The park is one of the youngest recreational areas
constructed in the Kentron administrative district, where they also hold
various events.
