MONUMENT TO HOVHANNES SHIRAZ
2005
Sculptor: Ara Shiraz
The
monument to the great Armenian poet Hovhannes Shiraz (Onik Karapetyan) is
located in the Youth Park adjacent to the Holy Trinity Church in the
Malatia-Sebastia administrative district.
The
bronze statue of Shiraz is placed on a basalt, multi-tiered pedestal. The poet
is sitting on a rock, leaning against it, in a majestic posture, with an open
book in his right hand. The rock ends at the top with a sculpture of Mount
Ararat.
The
left-hand ramp of the monument reads:
MY LIFE WAS STILL CAPTIVE TO
THE WRITING
STILL CAPTIVE TO YOUR SONGS,
MY NATION, MY HEART WAS STILL
CAPTIVE
IN MY SONG, TO YOUR WOUNDS ...
On
the western side of the monument, the name of the sculptor is engraved: ARA
SHIRAZ.
The
height of the monument is 3.2 m, the height of the rock is 4.7 m.
