SAINT SARGIS CHURCH OF NOR NORK
The architectural elements of the Zvartnots, Saint Hripsime and Ani churches are combined in the St. Sargis Church.
1998
The
foundations of the St. Sargis Church in the Nor Nork administrative district
were laid in 1998. It was built at the initiative of the All Armenian
Catholicos Garegin II and Sargis Gabrielyan from New York. The priest Garnik
Haladjian from New Jersey, USA also contributed to the construction of the
church.
The
church is a central dome with traditional Armenian architecture. The
architectural elements of the Zvartnots, Saint Hripsime and Ani churches are
harmoniously combined in the structure. The beautiful complex, faced with tuff,
consists of the main church and the belfry.
The
church was built according to the design of architect Baghdasar Arzumanyan. It was opened
on February 19, 2000. The ceremony of blessing was held on April 30. The author of
the painting of the Holy Mother of God on the church’s altar is the famous
artist Grigor Khanjyan. The height of the main dome of the three-story church
is 23 meters. The prayer hall is polygonal and bright, with a total area of 328 square meters. The columns of the
prayer hall end with bas-reliefs symbolizing the 12 apostles of Christ. The
niches are for lighting candles.
A
Sunday school operates adjacent to the St. Sarkis Church.
