HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
ICE FACTORY
1950
The
ice factory is located on Arshakunyats Avenue.
The
building is a complex composed of four separate volumes arranged around an
inner courtyard and interconnected by heated passages. The main block is a
closed, compact volume facing Arshakunyats Avenue.
The
façade is articulated by five arched pilaster columns with decorated capitals
and rosettes carved within the arcade. Above the arcade are narrow windows with
semi-circular, ornamented upper parts. The composition is completed by a finely
ornamented cornice, giving the façade expressive character.
The
planning solutions are determined by the technological function of the
structure. The building is constructed of pink finely dressed tuff using mixed
masonry. Reinforced concrete structures are also used. The plinth is made of
rough grey basalt.
The
ice factory is one of the interesting industrial buildings of Soviet-era
Yerevan. It stands out for the high artistic level of its architectural
solutions and the expressive tectonic treatment of its walls.
