MONUMENT TO FRANZ WERFEL

The monument to
Austrian writer, humanist, and author of the novel “The Forty Days of Musa Dagh”,
Franz Werfel, is located in the first district of Nor Nork, in Fridtjof Nansen
Park.
On a polished
basalt pedestal stands a large fragment of black tuff. On its front side,
Werfel is depicted with his hands raised, as if carrying the weight of the
suffering experienced by the Armenian people during the 1915 genocide. Above
his head is a sculpture of an Armenian church. On the other sides, scenes of
the Great Genocide, people struggling and escaping, and fragments of khachkars
are carved. On the southern side, the writer's name is inscribed: FRANZ WERFEL
/ FRANZ WERFEL.
The height of the
monument is 2.25 m, and the dimensions of the pedestal are 0.43 x 1.80 x 1.17
m.
The monument is a word of gratitude in memory of Franz Werfel.
