The monument to Tork Angegh is located in the second district of Nor Nork,
on a hill. According to the historian Movses Khorenatsi (5th century), Tork was
the great-grandson of the patriarch Hayk, a tall, rough-looking, and powerful
giant who was called Angegh (Ugly)
because
of his ugliness. According to tradition, he split rocks with his hands,
chiseled them with his nails, smoothed them, and carved eagles on them, and on
the shores of Pontus (Black Sea), he tore off mountain-sized rocks and threw
them at enemy ships, sinking them or sending them fleeing.
Thork is depicted holding a
rock above his head with both hands, as if preparing to throw it at enemy
ships. The statue expresses strength, masculinity, and has a figure and posture
typical of a hero. The sculpture is made of forged copper and is 4.8 m high.
