PARK NAMED AFTER MOVSES GORGISYAN
2013
Located in the residential area of Yerevan’s Shengavit administrative district, this park spans 6,000 square meters between the first and second alleys of Shirak Street. It was renovated in 2013 as part of a comprehensive landscaping program for yard areas undertaken by the municipality.
The
park features a leisure area with a pool and passageways covered with
flagstones. It was named in honor of Movses Gorgisyan (1961–1990), a
commemorative national hero, leader of independence, and one of the founders of
the Independence Army. The naming decision was made by the Yerevan City Council
during an extraordinary session on December 25, 2013.
Movses Gorgisyan was notably the first to raise the Armenian tricolor in Freedom Square on May 28, 1998. In 2014, a marble bust of Gorgisyan was installed in the park, with the official unveiling taking place on July 8, 2014. The bust was created by sculptor Hayk Tokmajyan.
