MONUMENTS
NEMESIS
2023
Architect: Tigran
Barseghyan
The monument dedicated to the memory of
the Armenians who took revenge on the Young Turk leaders who committed the
Armenian Genocide in 1915 and the organizers of the massacres of Armenians in
Baku in 1918 is located on Alek Manukyan Street, in the fourth section of the
Ring Park.
The monument was officially opened on
April 25, 2023.
The monument is a monument made of
polished granite with a stepped edge that narrows upwards and resembles a
"symphony of stones", with a combination of elongated and regular
stones, on which the names of the avengers are inscribed. The composition is
lightened with rectangular lateral and cross-shaped openings at the top. It is
placed on a double pedestal, in the lower stone of which there is a water tap
in a circular recess. In front is a cruciform water basin and a fountain. On
the sides of the pedestal is a silhouette of the church, a relief, and an open
altar.
On
the pedestal is inscribed: “1919-1922. THE KNIGHTS OF NATIONAL DIGNITY.”
The
names of the participants in the operations are engraved on the frontal facades
of the stones: “SOGHOMON TEHLERYAN, ARAM ERKANYAN, YERVAND FUNDUKYAN, ARMEN
GARO, MISAK TORLAKYAN, GRIGOR MERJANOV, ARSHAVIR SHIRAKYAN, AVETIK ISAHAKYAN,
ARSHAK YEZDANYAN, ARA SARGSYAN, STEPAN TSAGHIKYAN, HRACH PAPAZYAN, ARTASHES
GEVORGYAN, SHAHAN NATALI, HAKOB MELKUMOV, PETROS TERPOGHOSYAN.” The back of the monument is inscribed with
“NEMESIS,” and the pedestal features a quote from Tehleryan: “THERE ARE
LAWSUITS WHOSE JUDGMENTS SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED TO THE COURTS.”
The
monument serves as a tribute to the condemnation of the genocide, honors the
actions of the heroes who sought justice, and inspires future generations with
a sense of national dignity.
