BUILDING OF THE WRITERS' UNION OF ARMENIA

1954

State index: 1.6.159

Architect: Gevorg Tamanyan

The building is located at 3rd Marshal Baghramyan Avenue.

It was built in 1954 as the administrative building of the Union of Writers of Armenia and the House of Writers. Initially, the building was designed in the form of a two-storey mansion house, located inside the red line of Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, not in a large park, which is generally typical for the development of that part of the avenue.

The building is symmetrical. The central part is solved by a semi-circular volume exiting from the general surface, designed with an elegant arched composition, where the main entrance is located. On the first floor are the lobby, halls and service rooms. There is a dressing room and a cafe in the basement floor. The hall is on the second floor. There are service rooms in the adjacent constructed part. In the 1970s a third floor was built on the central two-storey dimension, a four-storey dimension was built on the side of the yard. After the reconstruction, the building lost its integrity and scale.

It is built of red, smooth tuff, with a midis layout. It is one of the major social-cultural centers of Yerevan. Aesthetically, it is typical of the Soviet-Armenian architecture of the 1950s.
