HAZAKHACH CROSS-STONE

The cross-stone (khachkar) is located on the right bank of the Getar River, near house No. 24 on A. Shahinyan Street.
The cross-stone was named “Hazakhach” (cough cross) due to its healing properties. According to local beliefs, it cured patients suffering from coughs, especially children.
It rests on an inscribed (1249) piece of massive rock decorated with crosses. It is a composition consisting of large and small crosses, floral and geometric woven ornaments. It is made of reddish tuff.
