LABOURER AND COLLECTIVE FARMER

1956

State index: 1.6.67.1
Sculptor: Yervand Kochar

The bronze sculpture represents a worker and a collective farmer standing back to back, holding a torch above their heads with their right hands raised, forming a single symbolic image (in 2004 the torch has already been removed). Moreover, only their backs are solid, and their front sides are plastically separated. The collective farmer has a headscarf tied around her neck, wearing a light, simple dress that emphasizes the shapes of her body. The facial features are rough. With her left hand she holds a branch laden with apples, and at her feet is a basket of grapes - symbols of collective farm work. The man is depicted in a short-sleeved shirt, his left hand at his waist. His left foot is resting on the mechanism, and under his feet is a hammer, a symbol of the worker's work.
