1990
State index: 1.6.108
Architect: Aslan Mkhitaryan
It
was built in the courtyard of the former Agricultural Institute dormitory
building with student donations. It is dedicated to the victims of the Armenian
Genocide and the earthquake of December 7, 1988 and those who died in the Great
Patriotic War (1941-1945).
The
memorial column, erected vertically on a pedestal placed on a low rectangular
platform, has a compositionally proportional solution: the memorial walls in
the form of a crossed triangle are united by a large, simple cross stretching
along the central axis. The memorial walls are engraved with:
REMEMBER ARMENIAN
GENOCIDE 1915
THE WAR
VICTIMS 1988 EARTHQUAKE
Simple
crosses are depicted in the upper right-hand section. The monument is lightened
by triangular openings created on both sides of the lower wing of the large
cross. The pedestal is decorated with a pair of small fountains. It is carved
from gray basalt. It stands out for its grandeur and simplicity.
