MONUMENT TO MIKAYEL NALBANDYAN

1965

State index: 1.6.133

Sculptor: Nikoghayos Nikoghosyan

Architect: Jim Torosyan

The monument to the Armenian writer, poet, philosopher, literary critic, and publicist Mikayel Nalbandyan (1829-1866) is located in the Circular Park, at the intersection of Khanjyan, Moskovyan, and Nalbandyan streets, in front of the RA National Security Service building.

The opening of the monument took place on November 29, 1965.

The statue is made of wrought bronze, is 4.5 m high, and is placed on a black granite pedestal. Nalbandyan is depicted in a figurative likeness, with a proud posture, hands behind his back, and head held high. The facial features are individualized, the image is poetic and majestic due to the restrained and complete forms, solid massiveness and silhouette emphasis. On the back of the statue, on the low pediment, MIKAYEL NALBANDYAN is engraved. The spacious platform and pedestal emphasize the grandeur of the sculpture.

The sculpture expresses the plastic elements of Soviet Armenian sculpture of the 1960s: romanticism of the image, laconicism and generalization of means.

The monument to Mikayel Nalbandyan is one of the best monuments in Yerevan, which, harmoniously interwoven with the surrounding nature, forms one of the city's busiest intersections.
