TOURS
NORTHERN AVENUE
It is one of the most crowded and popular places in Yerevan.
In the evenings Northern Avenue is brimming with life, energy, and crowds. And it's not surprising, since it is a pedestrian avenue connecting two of Yerevan’s most important squares: Republic Square and Freedom Square (the Opera).
The
avenue got its name due to the fact that it stretches north from Republic
Square. Until the end of the 20th century, dilapidated buildings and one-story
houses stood on the site of Northern Avenue. Almost a century later, Northern
Avenue was built, which quickly became one of the busiest areas and business
centers of Yerevan.
On
September 21, 2021, the 30th anniversary of Armenia's independence, the
sculpture "The Walking Man" by world-famous Armenian sculptor Arto
Chakmakchyan (1933-2019) was installed at the beginning of Northern Avenue.
It
takes a few minutes to walk along the avenue from Republic Square to Freedom
Square. Lovers of branded stores can find everything they are looking for here:
clothes, shoes, accessories, perfumes. Mobile telecommunications operators also
have store centers on Northern Avenue.
The hustle and bustle of business life on Northern Avenue gives way to evening entertainment: cafes and restaurants are filled with visitors, people stroll along the wide street, sit on benches, watching the events unfold. On warm summer evenings, you will meet street musicians, pantomime artists, artists, and other creative people here.
