The statue of the great American-Armenian writer William Saroyan
(1908-1981) is located near the intersection of Mashtots Avenue and Moskovyan
Street. The initiative to install the statue was taken by Rafael Hovhannisyan,
President of the Pan-Armenian Geographical Association, and it was dedicated to
the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth. The ceremonial opening took place
on December 13, 2008. The authors of the statue are sculptor David Yerevantsi
(Babayan), architects Levon Igityan and Ruben Hasratyan.
The statue is made of bronze, height: 3.2 m, weight: about 500 kg. It was
cast in Prague, then transported and installed in Armenia.
