YEGISHE CHARENTS HOUSE-MUSEUM

Yeghishe Charents House-Museum was founded in 1964 by the Decree of the Council
of Ministers of the USSR by the decision of February 8, in the Yerevan
apartment where Charents lived in 1935-1937. The grand opening took place on
January 30, 1975. In February 1978, during the celebration of the poet's 80th
birthday, the first floor of the same section of the building was allocated to
the poetry hall. Subsequently, the second and basement floors were allocated to
the museum. In 1987, on the occasion of Charents’s 90th birthday, the building
underwent partial modifications, and by the decision of the Council of
Ministers of the Armenian SSR, the museum's area was expanded (architect: Karen
Aleksanyan). The building is constructed with pink tuff. The entrance to the
museum is emphasized with a combination of black granite and basalt.
VISITOR INFORMATION
Yeghishe Charents House-Museum covers an area of 626.3 square meters, including the memorial restored to resemble the times of Charents. In the house-museum, the items brought from Yeghishe Charents' foreign trip (1924-1925) and the unique art samples are especially noteworthy. The museum organizes various events, including exhibitions, literary-musical evenings, lectures, thematic classes, concerts, meetings, presentations, poetry days, Charents readings, educational programs, etc. The museum holds thematic lectures, temporary exhibitions.
