MONUMENT TO THE FRIENDSHIP OF ARMENIAN AND ARAB PEOPLE

2009

Sculptors: Smbat and Rafik Mkrtchyan
Architect: Levon Mkrtchyan
Painter: Sergey Mkrtchyan

The monument is located on the shore of Lake Yerevan. It is an expression of the gratitude of the Armenian people to Syria and the Arab world of the Middle East for providing assistance to the Armenians who survived the Armenian Genocide.

The architectural composition consists of three parts: an eagle, a pyramid and an image of the territory of Syria. The eagle sculpture symbolizes the will and strength of the people, the pyramid - the rebirth of the Armenian people who survived the genocide and the opportunity for a new life in Syria and other Arab countries. The depiction of the territory of Syria symbolizes the Armenians settled in different corners of that country and the Arab world, as well as the friendship between the Armenian and Arab peoples.

The western facade of the monument is engraved with "1915", depicting a flock of birds. On the northwestern side, three slabs are inscribed in Armenian, Arabic, and English: "IN MEMORY OF THE ARMENIAN PEOPLE TO THE ARAB PEOPLE." To the left of the platform is a bench, on which is engraved in three languages: "IN MEMORY OF VARUZHAN SALATIAN" (The initiator of the construction is a representative of the Armenian community of Damascus). The monument is built of red tuff from Armavir. The height is 12 m.

The official opening took place in 2012.
