State index: 1.3.14

Sculptor: Vahe Harutyunyan

Architects: Armen Aghalyan, Grigor Grigoryan

The monument to Vahagn, the god of courage, thunder, and war of ancient Armenian pagan mythology, is located at Vagharshyan Street. According to tradition, he fought a duel with dragons, who personified darkness, from which he received the nickname Dragon Slayer.

The copper sculpture is erected on a pedestal made of stone fragments and is placed in the middle of a small basalt pool with a square (8.0 × 8.0 m) plan. The latter, in turn, connects to another, lower level, rectangular basalt pool. Fountains are placed in the middle of the lower pool. Vahagn is depicted fighting a dragon.
