MONUMENTS
MOTHERHOOD
1981
Sculptor: Hripsime Simonyan
This sculpture by
People's Artist of the USSR Hripsime Simonyan (1916 – 1998) is dedicated to her
favorite theme: motherhood.
Being the founder
of Armenian monumental ceramic sculpture, Hripsime Simonyan was also an
innovative creator.
The prototype of
the chamotte sculpture is the wife of the artist's son, Donara. The boy
standing next to her is Gevorg, her grandson, and on her mother's left hand,
sitting like a bird, is her granddaughter Arevik.
