HOVHANNES TUMANYAN PARK - TUMO PARK

1970

Located in the Ajapnyak Administrative District, on the edge of the Hrazdan Gorge, near the Kievyan Bridge (the Great Hrazdan Bridge).

The park was established in 1970 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Armenian poet Hovhannes Tumanyan. It is widely known among local residents as "Tumo Park." The park covers an area of 7 hectares.

In 2009–2010, the park was renovated. Football and basketball courts, children's playgrounds, pedestrian walkways, and bicycle paths were built, around 1,000 trees were planted, and an automatic irrigation system was installed.

In 2011, on the northern side of the park, near the former Aragats Cinema, the first TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Armenia was built at the initiative of the Armenian-American Simonian Educational Foundation (led by Sam and Sylva Simonian). The building was designed by renowned Lebanese architect Bernard Khoury. Today, numerous children study technology and design there free of charge.

Various events are held in the park on a regular basis. The park is maintained exclusively by the TUMO Center and is highly popular among the residents of Yerevan.
