HOLY MOTHER OF GOD CHURCH IN NORK MARASH
The Holy Mother of God Church is one of the famous churches in Yerevan, built at the beginning of the 20th century.
On
the hill of the Nork-Marash administrative district of Yerevan, stands the Holy
Mother of God Church, which was previously called Holy Marinos. It was located
next to the summer garden of the prominent Yerevan entrepreneurs
Ter-Avetikyans. The church was destroyed along with other monuments in Nork
during the disastrous earthquake of 1679. The church was built at the beginning
of the 20th century with the funds of the Ter-Avetikyan brothers. On the feasts
of the Holy Mother of God, numerous pilgrims visited the church not only from
Nork, but also from neighboring settlements.
Since
April 1990, the residents of Nork-Marash, with the funds raised by the
Nork-Marash Compatriotic Union, began the reconstruction of the church. The
church has been operating since 1995.
