MEMORIAL TO THE VICTIMS OF THE ARMENIAN AND JEWISH GENOCIDE

2006

Architect, painter Ruben Arutchyan

The monument is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide. It consists of two basalt columns, which symbolize the similarity of the fates of two ancient nations - Armenians and Jews. On the front facade of the right column is engraved in Armenian: LIVE NOT TO FORGET. IN MEMORY OF THE VICTIMS OF THE ARMENIAN AND JEWISH GENOCIDE.

On the same facade of the left column is the Hebrew inscription: TO BE OR TO FORGET. IN MEMORY OF THE VICTIMS OF THE HOLOCAUST.

The backs of the columns are carved with branches of the tree of life. The slanted tops of the columns symbolize the idea of lost lives. Between them is a bronze candle, which illuminates the monument in the dark and reminds people that genocide of any nation or people should not occur in the future.

Opened on October 27, 2006. Installed at the initiative of the Jewish community of Armenia.
