The statue of Jahangir
Agha, a great friend of the Armenian people, is located in Nansen Park. The
statue is made of tuff. Jahangir Agha, the national hero of the Yezidi people,
with the help of his soldiers, ensured the safe transportation of numerous Armenian
and Yezidi refugees to Eastern Armenia during the Armenian Genocide. In 1918,
with his 1,500-strong cavalry detachment, he actively participated in the
battles of Sardarapat and Bash-Aparan.
