VIKTOR HAMBARDZUMYAN MEMORIAL

The
memorial dedicated to the world-famous astrophysicist, long-time president of
the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences, founder and director of the Byurakan
Observatory Viktor Hambardzumyan (1908-1996) is located in front of the
scientist’s house in Yerevan. It is a decorative monument. On a long, low
basalt pedestal is erected a 2.15 m diameter, sculpted, basalt disk symbolizing
a celestial luminary. On its edges and on the right side of the pedestal is
engraved: “Academician Viktor Hamazasp Hambardzumyan. 1947-1993 President of
the Armenian Academy of Sciences. Lived here from 1960 to 1996.”
