VAHAGN DAVTYAN PARK
Established: in Soviet years
as Prague Park
Reconstruction: 2000s
Located in the Arabkir administrative district, between Komitas Avenue and Nairi Zaryan Street, opposite the Arabkir administration and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Known among Yerevan residents as the “Prague Park”, which is associated with the “Prague” hotel that was located here during Soviet years.
Since the 2000s,
it has been named after Armenian poet, publicist, translator, playwright,
Honored Cultural Worker of the Armenian SSR, and academician of the NAS RA
Vahagn Davtyan (1922-1996).
Improved under the Yerevan Mayor’s Office development program. During construction work, ramps were built, sidewalk tiles and curbs were relaid, and flower beds and lawns were created. In 2008, a travertine fountain-monument
“Sasna tsrer (Tsovinar
with Sanasar and Baghdasar)” was installed, created by Armenian sculptor Vigen
Avetis (Avetisyan) residing in Florence. In 2010, a monument to Vahagn Davtyan
was unveiled, and in 2015 - a monument to “The Children of Besieged Leningrad”
(sculptor Vladislav Manachinsky, architects Tigran Barseghyan, Anatoly Chernov,
Lada Chernova).
The garden is one of the favorite recreational spots for Arabkir residents.
