Start of operation: 1958
Architects: Mark Grigoryan, Eduard Sarapyan, with the participation of Eduard Altunyan and Levon Melkonyan
Structural Engineer: S. G. Baghdasaryan
The building is located at the southwestern edge of Republic Square, at the corner where it intersects with Amiryan Street.
The hotel has been operating since 1958. In 1963, the Amiryan Street wing was constructed (architects: Mark Grigoryan, Eduard Sarapyan). In the 1980s, the wing along Vazgen Sargsyan Street (formerly Shahumyan, later Parliament Street) was added (architects: Mark Grigoryan, Eduard Sarapyan).
During the Soviet period, it was the city’s main hotel. After the collapse of the USSR, the hotel was acquired by AK Development, and starting in 1998 it underwent a complete renovation to meet international standards. The hotel was renamed Armenia Marriott Hotel Yerevan.
The central building facing the square has a concave outline corresponding to the shape of the square. It consists of seven floors. The restaurant is located on the third and fourth floors, while guest rooms are on the fifth, sixth, and seventh floors. The hotel includes a lobby, three banquet halls, as well as a café-restaurant on the first floor, a cocktail bar, and other facilities.
The length of the façade is 172 meters.
The main façade of the building is distinguished by its rhythmic and vertically accentuated composition. The decorative elements feature stonework with traditional Armenian ornamental motifs.
The building is constructed of stone, with masonry made of midis (limestone). The floor slabs and load-bearing structures are made of reinforced concrete.
Together with the Trade Unions and Ministry of Communications Building, which was designed according to a similar compositional principle, the Armenia Hotel forms a separate architectural group. This group is separated from the cluster of government buildings by the main axis of Republic Square.
It is one of the public buildings of Soviet Armenia from the 1950s that played an important role in shaping the architectural ensemble of Republic Square.
