Alexander Spendiaryan house-museum


Alexander Spendiaryan house-museum is the first memorial musical museum in Armenia.


The museum of the composer and founder of Armenian classical symphonic music Alexander Spendiaryan, was opened on November 25, 1967. It is the first memorial musical museum in Armenia. The House-Museum building, constructed in 1925–1926, is located at the intersection of Tumanyan and Nalbandyan streets in Yerevan. It is one of the first residential buildings of Soviet Armenia and is recognized as a monument of republican significance. From 1926 to 1928, Alexander Spendiaryan lived in an apartment on the second floor of this building, where his House-Museum is now situated. 


VISITOR INFORMATION

Alexander Spendiaryan house-museum’s collection includes the composer’s personal beloangings, musical instruments, documents, letters, and manuscripts, all of which testify to his rich creative life and significant contribution to Armenian and world musical culture. The permanent exhibition is presented in the halls “Life Path” and “Creative Path,” while the composer’s study has been meticulously restored to appear exactly as it did during his lifetime. Only here can visitors see the unique musical instrument “Spendiarophone,” created based on the composer's idea in 1905, listen to its distinctive sound, enjoy Spendiaryan's Waltz played on a violin by the Jakob Steiner firm, and explore the captivating stage incarnations of his opera Almast. Among the variety of interactive educational programs, visitors can try their hand at conducting with the “Virtual Conductor” program, embark on a journey through significant locations associated with Spendiaryan, create their own symphony orchestra, and much more. Concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and various cultural events are regularly held at the house-museum.
