HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
MIKHAIL VON DER NONNE FIRST INCOME- GENERATING HOUSE
1895
The
building is located on Hanrapetutyan Street. It was constructed between the
second revenue house of Yerevan Provincial Engineer von der Nonne and the
building of the Yerevan Provincial Administration.
The
building project was approved by the city administration in February 1895, and
construction was carried out in the same year. In 1916, von der Nonne’s houses
were sold to Alexander and Artavazd Azizyants. In 1923, they were nationalized.
It
is a two-storey building with a basement. In plan, it has a three-part
composition consisting of the main volume, a side wing, and a slightly
projecting entrance hall with a stairwell facing the courtyard. The main block,
together with the entrance hall, stretches along the length of the street.
Inside, rooms are arranged on both sides of a longitudinal corridor: one row is
oriented toward the northwest (street), and the other toward the southeast
(courtyard). On the upper floor there is a cantilever balcony facing the
street.
On
the first floor, the rectangular openings are framed with roughly dressed
stone, while on the second floor they are surrounded by framed rectangular
surrounds, above which brackets support decorative window cornices. The
strongly expressed crowning cornice rests on geometric modillions, between
which round and rectangular flat inserts alternate. The frieze is outlined with
an original frame. The areas beneath the windows are decorated with geometric
patterns. The façade is completed by an attic divided with projections and
recesses.
Today,
the building houses the Armenian office of the Supreme Body of the ARF
(Armenian Revolutionary Federation) and the “Simon Vratsian” Center.
