RESIDENTIAL HOUSE
Late 19th century
State index: 1.6.200.6
The
house is located on Tigran Mets Avenue.
The
building is two-storied and includes a basement. The main block has an almost
U-shaped plan, while the side wings are of unequal size and relatively short. A
hall constructed on the courtyard side brings the overall plan closer to a
rectangle. Each apartment has a dual orientation, facing west toward the avenue
and east toward the inner courtyard. Single-story structures adjoin the main
block on the courtyard side.
The
artistic and architectural design of the principal western façade is laconic.
It is characterized by simple geometric forms, including rectangular windows,
rectangular recesses beneath the windows, horizontal bands, a simple cornice,
and walls finished with roughly dressed stone. The composition of the façade
emphasizes its central section.
Approximately
at the center is the semicircular arched opening of the passage leading to the
courtyard of the residence, accentuated by a projecting cornice and modillions.
To the right and left of the passage are symmetrically arranged identical
semicircular arched entrance openings, which provide direct access from the
avenue to the apartments.
The
structural system consists of load-bearing walls built of stone masonry. The
street-facing façade is finished with finely dressed black Yerevan tuff.
The
floor structures are flat and supported by wooden beams. The roof is pitched
and covered with sheet metal.
