AQUEDUCT OVER THE HRAZDAN RIVER
1950
State index:
1.6.156
Architect: Rafael Israelyan
Structural Engineer: G. Yeghyan
It is located not far from the
Victory Bridge, below the Hrazdan Stadium, in the gorge. The structure has five
spans. A sculpted cornice runs along the entire length of the water conduit.
Between the spans, on the wall
surfaces, there are circular profiled openings serving as windows. The
structure is organically integrated into the landscape of the Hrazdan Gorge and
is also used as a pedestrian bridge.
The aqueduct is faced with
rough-hewn gray basalt. The circular arches feature finely dressed basalt
moldings. The dimensions are 100 × 5 m.
It is one of the notable
engineering structures of Soviet Armenian architecture, distinguished by its
high level of architectural and artistic design.
