NANSEN PASSPORT
2004
Sculptor: Gevorg Mshetsi
The “Nansen Passport” monument is located
in the Nansen Park in the Nor Nork administrative district. It is made of red
tuff and depicts the Nansen Passport, which was issued to refugees and
stateless persons after World War I thanks to the famous Norwegian polar
explorer, scientist, diplomat, outstanding humanitarian, Nobel Prize laureate
Fridtjof Nansen. It is a stamp with Nansen’s portrait, which was affixed to
passports instead of the coat of arms. About 320 thousand Armenians who
survived the Armenian Genocide also received the Nansen Passport.
