2002

Sculptor: Serge Mehrabyan

Architect: Ashot Smbatyan

The monument to Grigor Narekatsi, an Armenian medieval cleric, a theologian canonized by the Armenian Church, a 10th century mystical poet, musician and philosopher, the founder of Armenian Renaissance literature, the author of the immortal poem "The Book of Lamentation", is located on Sebastia Street, next to the district administration and the Church of the Holy Mother of God, in Malatia Park.

It is placed on a three-step platform, on a polished stone pedestal. The ceremonial opening took place on April 19, 2002.

Narekatsi is depicted barefoot, with his right knee bent, his arms wide open, his gaze fixed on the sky, talking to God. He is dressed in monk’s robes with a hood, and his "Book of Lamentation" - "Narek" - is open on his chest. On the 7 basalt slabs placed behind the monument, passages from the poem are carved. The sculpture is made of bronze, granite, and basalt, and its height is 3.25 m.
