WWF Armenia is marking the 20th anniversary of Earth Hour with a public event at the Republic Square.

WWF Armenia, in collaboration with Candlenight Concerts and with the support of the Yerevan Municipality, will hold a special open-air event at the Republic Square on March 28 at 20:30, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Earth Hour movement.
Earth Hour is a global initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), launched in 2007, which has rapidly grown into one of the world’s largest environmental movements. Each year, more than 190 countries and thousands of cities take part in the initiative by switching off non-essential lights for one hour, demonstrating their commitment to protecting our planet.
Since 2008, Armenia has also been an active participant in the movement, led by WWF Armenia. Over the years, the Yerevan Municipality, along with all regions and communities, has joined Earth Hour by switching off non-essential street and building lighting, highlighting the country’s commitment to this global initiative.
In 2026, Earth Hour will celebrate its 20th anniversary worldwide. “We approach this milestone with great responsibility. In the context of obvious and growing climate challenges, the message of Earth Hour is more relevant than ever,” said Zhak Niazyan, Head of Communications, Partnerships, and Fundraising at WWF Armenia.
Therefore, continuing a long-standing tradition, on March 28 at 20:30, the Yerevan Municipality, along with various communities across Armenia, will join the Earth Hour movement by switching off non-essential street and building lighting.
After the lights are turned off at the Republic Square, citizens will be treated to a unique musical atmosphere under thousands of candles, with the participation of Candlenight Concerts.
WWF Armenia calls on individuals, communities, and organizations to join this global movement—not only by switching off their lights for one hour but also by supporting WWF’s programs aimed at conserving biodiversity in Armenia.
