THE FIRST PROFITABLE HOUSE OF MIKHAIL VON DER NONNE

1895

State index: 1.6.203.7

Project author - provincial engineer of Yerevan Mikhail Von der Nonne

The building is located at 30 (2) Republic Street, in the block between Tigran Mets Avenue and Pavstos Buzand Street. It was built between Von der Nonne’s second profitable house and the building of the Yerevan Provincial Administration.

The house project was approved by the city administration in February 1895. Construction was carried out in the same year.

In 1916, Von der Nonne’s houses were sold to Alexander and Artavazd Azizyan. In 1923, they were nationalized, after which the first building was given to the party school.

It is a two-story building with a basement. The plan is a three-part structure consisting of the main volume, a wing, and a vestibule with a staircase slightly protruding into the courtyard. The main building, together with the vestibule, extends along the street (27.6 m). Inside, rooms are concentrated on both sides of the longitudinal corridor, one row oriented to the northwest (street), the other to the southeast (courtyard). On the upper floor, there is a balcony oriented towards the street.

On the first floor, rectangular openings are processed with roughly hewn stone; on the second floor, they are framed with rectangular frames with brackets, above which consoles support decorative window cornices. The pronounced crowning cornice rests on geometric modillions, between which round and rectangular flat cushions alternate. The frieze is bordered by an original frame. The walls under the windows are decorated with geometric patterns. The facade wall is topped with an attic with protrusions and niches.

Currently, the building houses the Armenian office of the ARF Supreme Body and the “Simon Vratsyan” center.
