1938-1955
State Index` 1.6.89.2
Architect: Samvel Safaryan
It is located in the area near to the intersection of the Abovyan and Koryun streets, at No. 2 of the Koryun street. It was built in two phases. In 1938 the parts of the central and Abovyan streets were completed, in 1955 the dome and the part of the Koryun street. It stands out for the accuracy of its layout and design solutions. The five-story, dome-covered central surface has four-story buildings in its vicinity. Auditoriums and laboratories are located on the courtyard side. On the opposite side, the wide corridors are designed along the wings. The façades are made in a unified style, and have a highlighted cornice. Black tuff and gray basalt from Kaputan village were used as building blocks.
The structure is one of the major educational institutions of Yerevan, one of the monumental examples of Soviet-Armenian architecture, which has an important role in the development of this urban planning hub.
