The monument is located near the building of the Armenian Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. Spendiaryan, at the intersection of Sayat-Nova Avenue and Teryan street.
It was installed in 1988. The sculpture was donated to the city by the Armenian Culture Foundation.
The sculptor David Yerevantsi created the sculpture based on the image of a dancer and singer Arev Baghdasaryan, who was born in Shushi.
The Soviet authorities forbade placing the sculpture in the city, as a result of which the work was kept in the foundry for two years. After the beginning of the Karabakh movement in 1988, the statue was installed in the upper part of Swan Lake.
