MONUMENT TO ARNO BABAJANYAN
2003
Architect: Levon Igityan
Sculptor: Davit Bejanyan
The
monument to Arno Babajanyan, the renowned Armenian songwriter, pianist, and
National Artist of the USSR and ASSR, is located at the intersection of Teryan
and Tumanyan Streets, near Swan Lake, in a bustling area of Yerevan. Initially
installed in 2002, the monument faced negative public opinion and was
dismantled. After revisions, it was ceremoniously re-installed on July 4, 2003.
The
statue portrays Babajanyan seated at a piano, passionately playing. It was
created to mark his 80th birthday. The monument is made of bronze and Ukrainian
granite, standing 2.8 meters tall. The project was financed by Ruben
Hayrapetyan, President of the Football Federation of Armenia and a prominent
businessman.
