VAZGEN SARGSYAN REPUBLICAN STADIUM
1933-1935
Located
on Vardanants Street.
The
“Dynamo” Stadium was built between 1933 and 1935 based on the design of
architect Hovhannes Margaryan and was later expanded in 1953 according to the
design of architect Koryun Hakobyan. Architect G. Tsgnavoryan also participated
in the expansion works.
The
engineering part was developed by Varos Pinajyan.
The
author of the stadium roof covering (1996–2000) is civil engineer Grigor
Azizyan.
The
stadium has a seating capacity of 14,403. The dimensions of the field are 105 ×
68 m.
The
first football match at the stadium took place in June 1935, between Yerevan
“Spartak” and the football team of the Central House of the Red Army of Moscow.
A
large swimming pool once operated adjacent to the stadium, which no longer
exists.
Since
its foundation, the stadium was known as “Dynamo.” In 1999, it was renamed the
“Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium.”
