HRAZDAN CENTRAL STADIUM
1971
Located
in the Hrazdan Gorge.
The
stadium was built between 1968 and 1970. Construction works were carried out by
the “Yerqimshin” trust. The official opening took place on May 19, 1971, with a
match between Yerevan “Ararat” and Alma-Ata “Kairat”.
It
is one of the largest stadiums of the USSR and the first two-tier stadium in
the Soviet Union. Its overall dimensions are 260 × 180 m, while the dimensions
of the playing field are 114 × 69 m. Reinforced concrete structures were used
in the construction.
In
1979, the stadium was awarded the State Prize of the Armenian SSR.
The
stadium is a living witness to the achievements of Armenian sports, especially
football, hosting not only football matches but also major cultural events,
concerts, and celebrations.
After
Armenia’s independence, the first major renovation works at the stadium were
carried out in 2008 ahead of the Armenia–Turkey football match.

Stadium is one of the valuable and unique sports facilities of Soviet Armenian
architecture, distinguished by its expressive spatial and volumetric design.
