1971

Architects: Koryun Hakobyan, Gurgen Musheghyan
Structural Engineer: Eduard Tosunyan

Located in the Hrazdan Gorge.

The stadium was built between 1968 and 1970. Construction works were carried out by the “Yerqimshin” trust. The official opening took place on May 19, 1971, with a match between Yerevan “Ararat” and Alma-Ata “Kairat”.

It is one of the largest stadiums of the USSR and the first two-tier stadium in the Soviet Union. Its overall dimensions are 260 × 180 m, while the dimensions of the playing field are 114 × 69 m. Reinforced concrete structures were used in the construction.

In 1979, the stadium was awarded the State Prize of the Armenian SSR.

The stadium is a living witness to the achievements of Armenian sports, especially football, hosting not only football matches but also major cultural events, concerts, and celebrations.

After Armenia’s independence, the first major renovation works at the stadium were carried out in 2008 ahead of the Armenia–Turkey football match.

“Hrazdan” Stadium is one of the valuable and unique sports facilities of Soviet Armenian architecture, distinguished by its expressive spatial and volumetric design.
