KANAKER PARISH SCHOOL

It
is located on 6th Street in Kanaker. The site is separated from the street by a
fence. It is one of the important educational centers of the late 19th and
early 20th centuries within the Yerevan area. It was founded in 1864. The
building itself was constructed in the 1910s and functioned until the Soviet
period. Later, it was used as a storage facility for agricultural tools and
food products.
It
was restored and improved through the efforts of the Mother See of Holy
Etchmiadzin and the Armenian General Benevolent Union. Currently, the building
houses the Kanaker School of Miniature Painting.
It
is a single-story building with a rectangular plan. Classrooms are arranged on
both sides of a longitudinal corridor. The staircase entrance is located on the
main western façade.
The
latter is faced with finely dressed tuff stone and stands out against the
plastered walls. Its symmetrical composition is divided by side pilasters and a
central projection. The rectangular openings, framed with rusticated stonework,
are grouped in pairs: single openings between pilasters and pairs on both sides
of the entrance. The façade is completed with a restrained cornice.
