LOVERS’ PARK

18th century

The park is located near the Marshal Baghramyan Station of the Yerevan Metro, the building of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, and the Residence of the President of the Republic of Armenia, at the intersection of Marshal Baghramyan Avenue and Demirchyan Street.

The park has existed since at least the 18th century. Its territory is depicted without a name on the map of Yerevan compiled by Boris Mehrabyan between 1906 and 1911. In 1949, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, it was named “Pushkin Park.” In 1970, it was renamed “Friendship Park” as a symbol of the friendship of the peoples of the USSR. In 1995, the park received its current name, “Lovers’ Park.”

In 2006–2007, the park was reconstructed in a Japanese style with the sponsorship of the Robert Poghosyan Foundation. The reconstruction project was designed by Swiss landscape architect Pierre Rambach. The official reopening took place on October 17, 2008.

The park covers a total area of 1.6 hectares, of which 1.05 hectares are landscaped green space and 0.11 hectares are water surfaces. Pathways, water channels, an artificial pond with two islets, four artificial waterfalls, an amphitheater, bridges, pavilions, drinking fountains, and a children's playground were constructed. Various stone compositions were installed, and new trees were planted. The park has entrances from both Marshal Baghramyan Avenue and Demirchyan Street.

Lovers’ Park is the first and, to date, the only Japanese-style park in Armenia. It serves not only as a place for recreation and leisure but also as a venue for various cultural and public events.
