HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
CHAMPAGNE WINE FACTORY
1949
Architects: Stepan Satunts, Ilya
Susterovich
Located on
Tbilisian Highway.
The
building was constructed in 1949. It is situated within a fenced area
surrounded by dense greenery. The structure is three-storey, while from the
eastern facade side it appears as a two-storey building. The floor plan has a
complex composition. The central section is elongated (approximately 50 m
long), while side wings are attached at obtuse angles on both the right and
left sides (approximately 36 m long). The height of the plinth section is 5 m.
The main facade has three entrances.
The
first and second floors house production halls, while the third floor contains
administrative and work offices.
The
facades are designed with refined artistic taste, incorporating blind arches,
pilasters, niches, and decorative floral ornaments. The combination of
light-colored tuff and basalt gives the building a solemn appearance. The
entrance doors feature carved wood combined with wrought iron.
The
monumental forms and laconic volumes transform this purely industrial building
into a unique architectural work distinguished from other industrial structures
by the refined treatment of its details. Basalt, tuff, glass, and reinforced
concrete were used as construction materials.
The
Champagne Wine Factory building is the only structure in Yerevan designed by
architect Stepan Satunts. Its composition reflects the traditions and spirit of
medieval Armenian architecture.
The building is of
high architectural value and is a characteristic example of monumental
classicism.
