MEMORIAL TO VICTOR HAMBARDZUMYAN

The
memorial dedicated to Victor Hamazasp Hambardzumyan (1908-1996), the
world-famous astrophysicist, long-term president of the Academy of Sciences of
the USSR, founder, and director of the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory, is
located in the Marshal Baghramyan Avenue 22 A, in front of his house.
It is a decorative monument. On the long but low basalt pedestal (dimensions: 4.5 x 0.52 x 0.3 m) stands a sculpted basalt-made plate (a 2.15 m diameter) symbolizing the celestial luminary. On its edges and the right side of the pedestal is engraved: “Academician Victor Hamazasp Hambardzumyan: 1947-1993 the President of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia / Lived here in 1960-1996.”
