Vahagn
is the god of courage, thunder, and war in the ancient Armenian pagan pantheon,
one of the most powerful and revered gods of the Armenian pantheon, a symbol of
strength, courage, and victory. According to legend, he engaged in single
combat with dragons, personifying darkness, hence receiving the nickname
Vishapakagh (Dragon Slayer).
The
bronze sculpture is installed on a pedestal made of stone fragments and placed
in the center of a small square basalt pool (8.0 × 8.0 m). The latter, in turn,
connects to another rectangular basalt pool located at a lower level. Fountains
are installed in the center of the lower pool. Vahagn is depicted at the moment
of battle with the dragon. Water plays a significant role in the composition.
